Dems, GOP agree on bill to avert govt shutdown - Pelosi

United States House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the Democrats in the US Congress have reached an agreement with the Republicans to take on a stopgap funding bill in an effort to avert a government shutdown.

"Democrats have renewed the vital, expiring lifeline of Pandemic EBT for a full year," Pelosi revealed in a statement. Additionally, under the legislation, $8 billion in nutrition assistance will be added for schoolchildren and families, also extending key flexibility for states to lower administrative requirements on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for families in the middle of the crisis.

On September 30, the end of the US fiscal year, a shutdown was expected in the event the Trump administrations and the Democratic lawmakers fail to reach a deal on the next phase coronavirus relief, for which negotiations have reached a stalemate.
