Daily COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Russia

Russia's Health Ministry informed on Wednesday that the country registered 6,431 new COVID-19 cases and 150 coronavirus-related deaths over the previous day. Since the start of this month, the data shows that the numbers have again started to go up.

The total amount of positive cases stands at 1.12 million with the latest update, while the death toll is nearing 20,000. Russia is currently holding the fourth spot in the world by the number of recorded cases, however, the country's death rate is significantly lower compared to the other states most affected by the pandemic.

Russia is also the only country that has a registered vaccine against the disease. Speaking at the annual United Nations General Assembly, President Vladimir Putin yesterday offered to provide the vaccine to all UN staff free of charge while asserting the jab is "safe, reliable and effective."
