Senate passes bill to avoid govt shutdown

Policymakers in the United States Senate have passed a bipartisan stopgap funding bill in an effort to avert a government shutdown on September 30, at the end of the US fiscal year.

The legislation was forwarded to President Donald Trump to sign into law with an 84-10 vote and is set to keep the government funded until December 11.

The phase four coronavirus relief negotiations between the Trump administrations and the Democratic lawmakers in the US Congress have reached a stalemate prompting the introduction of the temporary funding package, which is also set to provide $8 billion in nutrition assistance for schoolchildren and families amid the pandemic.
