Lam: National security law restored peace in HK

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam stated on Thursday the national security law China recently introduced restored peace in the region and allowed the citizens to "again exercise their rights and liberties in accordance with the law."

"No matter how many unreasonable accusations some countries exercising double standards have made, and how many harsh actions they imposed on our officials, my colleagues and I will continue to discharge our duty to protect national security in accordance with the law, without fear and with stern confidence," Lam said at the celebration of China's National Day.

The controversial national security law, which Beijing passed in June, raised concerns from the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, which claimed it violated Hong Kong's one country, two systems policy. Washington subsequently imposed sanctions on Lam and other Chinese officials over the legislation.
