US nonfarm payrolls up by 661,000 in September
Nonfarm employment in the United States went up by 661,000 in September, performing below expectations, according to the report released by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) on Friday.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate declined from last month's 8.4% to 7.9 percent or to 12.6 million people, beating expectations and hitting its lowest level since February when it was at 4.4%.
The report noted significant job gains in leisure and hospitality, retail trade, health care and social assistance, and in professional and business services. On the other hand, employment in government decreased throughout the month, mostly in state and local government education.
