Progress made in Brexit talks, divergences persist - EU's Barnier

European Union's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier (pictured) noted on Friday that the latest round of negotiations between the United Kingdom and the bloc has brought "positive developments," but stressed that the two sides will need to sort out "serious divergences" of "major importance" to the EU in order for the talks to make a more significant move forward.

Barnier asserted that not enough progress was made in regards to "protection of personal data, climate change commitments" and "carbon pricing," and reiterated that UK's Internal Market Bill represents a violation of the original Brexit Withdrawal Agreement.

Earlier in the day, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen warned negotiators from London and Brussels alike that they "are running out of time," and called upon both sides to "intensify" the talks.
