Ex-officer charged with Floyd murder freed on bail

Former officer of the Minneapolis Police Department, Derek Chauvin, charged with the murder of George Floyd, was released from Oak Park Heights prison on Wednesday on a $1 million bail.

Chauvin, who was filmed kneeling on George Floyd’s neck before he died, was arrested on May 29 and accused of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and manslaughter.

The former police officer previously asked for the dismissal of the case, saying there was no enough evidence to press the aforementioned charges against him. The death of George Floyd sparked civil unrest throughout the United States that resulted in several cities being labeled "anarchist" and sent federal guards to help restore the order.
