Orange Belgium chooses Nokia for 5G roll-out

Belgian telecoms company Orange Belgium reported on Friday it chose Nokia to reestablish its existing 2G, 3G and 4G mobile radio network and to start with 5G.

According to Xavier Pichon, CEO of Orange Belgium, at first, the company’s 5G radio network will be implemented within its existing core network, provided by Ericsson and this should also help in its CO² reduction objectives.

Tommi Uitto, president of Nokia Mobile Networks, said that his company’s "Single RAN technology also lowers the carbon footprint by supporting 3G, 4G and 5G radio units and thereby reducing the number of sites and antennas."

Nokia stock was up by 3.26% to €3.43 after this announcement.
