Europe opens mixed amid pandemic worries

European stock markets opened mixed on Monday as the pandemic continues to spread in Europe. It is expected that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announces a three-tier lockdown system later in the day. Investors are also waiting for European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde's speech today.

The FTSE 100 fell 0.21% at 9:00 am CET with Compass Group Plc going down by 0.68%. The DAX rose 0.23% at the same time. Daimler AG was the best performer rising by 1.64% at 9:05 am CET. The CAC 40 was up 0.11% at 9:01 am CET as Orange rose by 1.65%.

The euro fell against the dollar by 0.11% to sell for 1.18183 at 9:01 am CET, while the pound stood flat against the US currency to go for 1.30540 at the same time.
