Europe sinks deeper as virus worries mount

Shares on the major European stock market indexes extended losses on Thursday as the fears of the pandemic's second wave mounted. As both Germany and the United Kingdom observed record-high daily increases in infections, countries across the continent contemplated the best way to curb the spread of the virus.

The DAX dropped 2.62% at 10:26 am CET, while the FTSE 100 plunged 1.98% a minute later. At the same time, in Paris, the CAC 40 dived 1.96%.

The euro declined by 0.25% against the dollar at 10:30 am CET, selling for $1.17158, while the pound lost 0.29% versus the greenback, to go for $1.29713 at the same time.
