France sees record 30,621 new COVID-19 cases

The French Public Health Agency informed on Thursday the country registered record 30,621 new COVID-19 cases and 88 coronavirus-related deaths over the last 24 hours.

The official data revealed 12.6% of conducted tests returned positive, while 6,529 people were hospitalized after showing severe symptoms of the disease. With the latest update, the total number of reported cases surpassed 800,000.

Due to the worsening health crisis, the nationwide state of emergency in France is set to start on Sunday, October 17. President Emmanuel Macron said a curfew would also be imposed in an effort to contain the expanding outbreak.
