New EU COVID measures may delay recovery - ECB's Panetta

European Central Bank Executive Board Member Fabio Panetta warned that new coronavirus restrictions and lockdowns could delay Europe's economic recovery.

Panetta stressed that the bloc's economy is now seen returning to pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2022 but that could happen even later due to the second wave of the virus which is causing authorities to tighten measures again.

"The return to more stringent containment measures that we are observing in a number of euro area countries may push this horizon even further away," Panetta told Greek newspaper Kathimerini.
