Microsoft, SpaceX join forces in cloud computing for space customers

Microsoft and SpaceX are joining forces to provide cloud-computing services to space customers, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, Microsoft launched an initiative today targeting commercial and government space businesses in partnership with SpaceX and other companies. The company plans to deploy cloud services using low-orbit spacecraft proposed by SpaceX.

In September, Microsoft announced plans to connect its cloud service provider Azure to satellites, adding it already had agreements with several satellite firms. Meanwhile, its competitor Amazon created a new business unit in June with the goal of developing data infrastructure and cloud services for the aerospace and satellite industry.
