US markets open mixed as relief talks continue

United States stock markets opened lower on Wednesday after news that "some kind" of stimulus package could be agreed in Congress within the next two days. Meanwhile, the Fed's Lael Brainard warned the economic recovery remains uncertain and uneven due to the still-ongoing coronavirus crisis.

In business news, Verizon Communications and Abbott Laboratories published their financial results for the third quarter of the year ahead of today's session.

The Dow Jones lost 0.13% at the open, as Chevron fell 0.91%. The Nasdaq 100 advanced 0.25%, with Netflix sinking 5.28% after Q3 earnings results. The S&P 500 stood flat. The euro gained 0.25% against the dollar to sell for $1.18520 at 9:32 am ET. The markets had a very volatile start, turning positive shortly after the opening.
