Tesla official claims China forced recall with no reason - report
Tesla Inc's managing counsel for regulatory affairs Elizabeth Mykytiuk has claimed that the recall of almost 30,000 of its Model S and Model X vehicles in China was unnecessary, a report by Electrek stated on Friday.
Citing a letter which Mykytiuk allegedly sent to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the outlet noted that "Tesla was left with the choice of either voluntarily recalling the subject vehicles or carrying a heavy burden through the Chinese administrative process."
The letter also stressed that the California-based automaker "has not determined that a defect exists," and added that "the root cause of the issue is driver abuse, including that driver usage and expectation for damageability is uniquely severe in the China market."
