S. Arabia won't oppose battling climate change - minister

Saudi Arabia's Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud reassured on Monday that his country would "definitely" not be a problem when it comes to fighting against climate change. "The purpose is not to go for a low-carbon economy. The purpose is to go for a low-emission economy," the minister argued.

He noted that the demand for crude oil recovered over the last months, but warned that the market is still "not out of the woods." Commenting on the OPEC+ cooperation, the minister shared optimism and hope in the organization's joint effort.

He insisted that mitigating climate change should be the main focus of the governments, instead of trying to fulfill "hidden" objectives such as eliminating hydrocarbons. Modern technologies will help decarbonize the oil sector, he concluded.
