Lockdown measures unlikely to be lifted by Dec - French expert

Professor Jean-Francois Delfraissy (pictured), an immunologist and scientific adviser for the French government, claimed on Thursday that containment measures declared on Wednesday over the surging number of coronavirus cases in the country are not likely to be lifted by December. The immunologist referred to French President Emmanuel Macron's statement on his intention to ease restrictions once daily cases fall beyond 5,000 from more than 36,000 France recorded yesterday.

"On December 1, we will not be at 5,000 infections per day. I can tell you straight away today. We will need more time," he said in an interview with France Inter, adding he can't rule out the third wave of the pandemic.

According to him, the next two or three weeks will be "extremely difficult for the healthcare system" as the number of infections jump nationwide.
