US opens mostly higher after optimistic data

Major stock indexes in the United States started Thursday's trading session mostly higher after it was reported that seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims decreased by 40,000 to 751,000 for the week ending on October 24. Also, the country's Department of Commerce said gross domestic product (GDP) surged at an annualized rate of 33.1% in the third quarter of 2020, topping analysts' estimates.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average stood flat at the opening bell but went down in the next few minutes of trading falling by 178 points or 0.68% at 9:43 am ET. Amgen was the worst performer slipping by 1.21 at the open. The Nasdaq 100 went up by 0.74% with Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp jumping by 6.81%. The S&P 500 advanced by 0.23% as General Electric Co increased by 2.83%.

The euro went down by 0.31% against the dollar at 9:29 am ET to sell for 1.17101.
