New 78,981 COVID-19 cases recorded in US

The United States registered 78,981 new COVID-19 cases and 994 coronavirus-related deaths over the past day, the official data collected by Johns Hopkins University showed on Thursday.

With 8.86 million positive cases and over 227,000 fatalities since the start of the pandemic, the US remains the most impacted country in the world. Commenting on the data, former FDA's chief Dr. Scott Gottlieb warned that the country could see a significant increase in newly recorded cases after Thanksgiving (November 26).

Earlier in the day, the Commerce Department revealed the US economy annually surged a remarking 33.1% in the third quarter of the year.
