Johnson considering nationwide lockdown - report

United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson could introduce a nationwide lockdown in order to limit the spread of the coronavirus in the country, The Times reported citing a senior government source.

Johnson started assessing the restrictions amid "concerns that hospitals across the country are being overwhelmed," the report read and added that the containment measures could be announced on Monday and come into effect as early as Wednesday. According to the outlet, the measures would entail closing down "everything except essential shops, nurseries, schools, and universities."

Britain saw its largest daily increase in COVID cases ten days ago, with the numbers of daily recorded infections dropping below 20,000 only once in the past seven days.
