Asia mostly up on COVID-19 vaccine hopes

Major stock market indexes in Asia traded higher on Tuesday with investors focused on developments regarding a potential coronavirus treatment. Moderna Inc. revealed preliminary data showed its coronavirus vaccine to be 94.5% effective across all evaluated subgroups in a study. The results add to the growing confidence about a vaccine helping the global economy recover from the pandemic, as the company joins Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech whose candidate had shown similarly promising results several days ago.

Japan's Nikkei 225 went up by 0.19% at 04:42 am CET, with the Australian S&P 200, increasing 0.23% at the same time. At 4:43 am CET, South Korea's Kospi added 0.16%, as Hong Kong's Hang Seng increased by 0.04%. At 04:47 am CET, the dollar traded 0.07% lower against the yen, going for ¥104.4925.

In mainland China, however, the Shanghai Composite decreased by 0.2% at 4:30 am CET, with the Shenzhen Composite going 1.14% down at 04:46 am CET.
