Europe closes mixed amid EU budget concerns

Major European markets closed mixed on Tuesday, as European Union Economic Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni expressed his optimism that the 2021-27 budget would be approved despite the initial veto by Hungary and Poland. On the Brexit front, “significant issues remain” on the trade agreement between the United Kingdom and the EU, according to the British Prime Minister’s spokesperson.

Meanwhile, there is still no agreement between the EU and Moderna about the supply of its COVID-19 vaccine, although the European Commission confirmed that the CureVac vaccine purchase had been approved.

The DAX remained flat at the closing bell, as EON SE recorded losses of 2.06%. The CAC 40 jumped 0.21%, while Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield was up by 3.99% at the end of the session. The FTSE 100 closed 0.87% lower, with Antofagasta dropping by 4.32%. The euro moved 0.12% in the green, buying $1.18666 at 5:28 pm CET, while the pound gained 0.43% at the same time, going for $1.32542.
