Asia trades mixed amid Xi's APEC remarks

Asian stock markets traded mixed on Thursday as Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum. Xi stated that China will aim to further cut tariffs and pursue free trade agreements with more countries. Meanwhile, Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE revealed that their coronavirus vaccine is 95% effective, according to a final data analysis.

The Nikkei 225 lost 0.84% at 4:45 am CET. Hang Seng dropped 0.62% at the same time. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 was down just 0.09% at the same time, while the Kospi Composite lost 0.52% at 4:26 am CET.

In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite gained 0.11% at 4:30 am CET, and the Shenzhen Composite was up by 0.62% at 4:46 am CET.

The dollar traded 0.08% lower compared to the yen and sold for 103.7670 at 4:48 am CET.
