Asia mostly up on vaccine hopes

Major stock market indexes in Asia traded higher on Friday with investors focused on developments regarding a potential coronavirus treatment. American infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci commented on the preliminary data that showed the two coronavirus vaccine candidates proved over 90% effective and revealed the sped-up process of getting a vaccine did not compromise its safety.

In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite advanced by 0.1% at 04:30 am CET, with the Shenzhen Composite adding 0.27% at 04:36 am CET. Hong Kong's Hang Seng went up by 0.48% at 04:42 am CET, as South Korea's Kospi Composite gained 0.03%. At 04:43 am CET the dollar traded 0.05% higher against the yen, going for ¥103.8215.

The Australian S&P/ASX 200, however, lost 0.11% at 04:45 am CET. Markets in Japan will be closed today for an exchange holiday.
