FDA to discuss Pfizer's EUA application on Dec 10

United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) unveiled on Friday that it will hold a meeting of its Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) on December 10, during which it will discuss the Emergency Use Application (EUA) which Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech filed for its COVID vaccine candidate earlier in the day.

"The FDA recognizes that transparency and dialogue are critical for the public to have confidence in COVID-19 vaccines. I want to assure the American people that the FDA's process and evaluation of the data for a potential COVID-19 vaccine will be as open and transparent as possible," FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn said in a statement, adding that the meeting will be made available to the public exactly to that end.

The two pharmaceutical companies have filed an application earlier during the day, describing the step as a "critical milestone in our journey to deliver a COVID-19 vaccine to the world."
