Trump campaign requests new Georgia recount
A new recount of ballots in Georgia has been requested by United States President Donald Trump's campaign due to the small difference in votes received by Trump and President-elect Joe Biden. According to Georgia law, a recount is allowed if the margin between the candidates is less than 0.5%. After a manual recount this week, Biden was in the lead by around 12,000 votes or around 0.25%.
"We are focused on ensuring that every aspect of Georgia State Law and the US Constitution are followed so that every legal vote is counted," the campaign said in a statement. "President Trump and his campaign continue to insist on an honest recount in Georgia, which has to include signature matching and other vital safeguards."
