Ex-IAG CEO to become IATA's director-general

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced on Monday that Willie Walsh, the former chief executive of International Airlines Group (IAG), would be proposed for the position of the cartel's director-general in April next year.

The IATA's Board of Governors will recommend Walshe's appointment at the 76th IATA Annual General Meeting, following Alexandre de Juniac's decision to step down from his position. "Now is the right time to hand over the association's leadership for the long process of recovery,” said de Juniac, and stated he is certain that Walsh will be "a great director-general."

De Juniac had joined IATA in September 2016 from Air France-KLM where he used to be the company's chairman and chief executive.
