Asia mostly up on vaccine, Biden transition progress

Equities on the Asian markets traded mostly higher on Wednesday with investors optimistic a coronavirus vaccine will be rolled out soon, which is expected to lead to the opening of global economies. The uncertainty about the next leader of the world's greatest economy was also reduced with President-elect Joe Biden's transition to the White House formally starting.

Japan's Nikkei 225 went up by 1.74% at 03:06 am CET, with the Australian S&P 200, increasing 0.79% a minute later. At 3:08 am CET, South Korea's Kospi added 0.39%. The dollar traded 0.12% higher against the yen, going for ¥104.5680 at 03:09 am CET, as Hong Kong's Hang Seng surged by 1.07%.

In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite went up by 0.17% at 03:09 am CET, with the Shenzhen Composite going 0.71% down a minute later.
