We can't say if there will be deal with UK - Von der Leyen

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen unveiled on Wednesday that the final result of the trade deal negotiations between the European Union and the United Kingdom can't be predicted and added that no side can claim, at this point, that a deal will be struck by the end of the transition period.

In her address to the European Parliament, Von der Leyen reiterated that "large differences" between London and Brussels still persist, most notably in the area of state aid. That being said, she stressed that some progress has been made in the talks, and affirmed that the bloc is dedicated to reaching a deal with the UK.

Negotiations encountered a hindrance a week ago when one of the staff members of the EU negotiating team tested positive for coronavirus. Despite the drawback, both sides underlined their dedication towards striking an accord in due time.
