Johnson: UK won't back down on fisheries

The European Union must "accept the reality" that the United Kingdom "must be able to control access to our waters," British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Wednesday.

Speaking with lawmakers for Prime Minister's Questions via video link, Johnson also assured Parliament that the UK would end its Brexit transition period on December 31.

Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that "large differences" remain between London and Brussels, most notably in the area of state aid. However, she conceded that some progress has been made in the talks and affirmed that the bloc is dedicated to reaching a deal with the UK.
