Report: Barnier calls 'urgent' meeting of fisheries ministers

European Union's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier (pictured) has called an "urgent" meeting of the bloc's fisheries ministers tomorrow, RTE correspondent asserted on Thursday.

Fishing rights have remained one of the main obstacles hindering the trade negotiations with the United Kingdom. Yesterday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated that the country must retain control of its waters.

The news comes shortly after it was reported that the European Commission supposedly informed EU members that an agreement on financial services with Londonis "unlikely" to be finalized by the end of the year. Further, Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney warned that negotiations are "very difficult" at the moment.
