Lukashenko 'not going to be president' after constitution change

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Friday that he is "not going to be the president once the new constitution is in place," according to state news outlet Belta. He also stressed that he is "not going to shape the constitution to suit my needs."

Lukashenko stated that Belarus has a "serious and rigid constitution in which everything depends on the president's decisions" and added that it needs to be changed in order to prevent a future president from possibly starting a war. "We need to create a new constitution but it should benefit the country. I don't want the country to fall to ruin later on," he told reporters.
