Prominent Iranian nuclear scientist killed - state media

Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, an Iranian scientist linked to a military nuclear program, was killed on Friday, AP reported citing Iran's state media. The circumstances of his death are currently unclear, but they appear to include a car explosion and a subsequent shootout.

Fakhrizadeh was also an officer in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). He is thought to have led Project Amad, which allegedly aimed to develop a nuclear weapon in Iran. Tehran denied the claims when negotiating the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal, signed in 2015.
