US stocks down premarket amid pandemic concerns

Major stock indexes in the United States traded below the flatline premarket on Monday as coronavirus continues to weigh on investor sentiment. The country's top expert on infectious diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci warned that there could be more surges in COVID-19 cases after the current wave. In addition, tensions between Washington and Beijing threatened to flare up again amid reports that the Trump administration could sanction China's SMIC.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.55% at 4:19 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 was flat at the same time, while the S&P 500 decreased 0.39%.

The euro grew 0.10% to reach a three-month high against the dollar at 4:19 am ET, changing hands for 1.19726.
