WH to ask FDA head why vaccine approval is not faster - report

United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Stephen Hahn was invited to the White House to explain why his agency is not acting faster on the approval of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine, Axios reported, citing sources from the Trump administration.

Hahn will be meeting Chief of Staff Mark Meadows who insisted they meet in person and not via telephone as the FDA head had suggested when Meadows first asked him to talk. Sources close to the matter claim that there is some concern about Hahn's commitment since some believe he was on vacation recently. However, the FDA had denied that he took time off and stated earlier than Hahn worked from home for a while after having been in contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19.

Earlier, US Health Secretary Alex Azar said the US could have two approved vaccines before Christmas even though no vaccine has been approved yet.
