Pfizer submits COVID-19 vaccine for EU approval

Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE announced on Tuesday they have applied for conditional marketing authorization of its coronavirus vaccine with the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

"Today's announcement marks another key milestone in our efforts to fulfill our promise to do everything we can to address this dire crisis given the critical public health need. We have known since the beginning of this journey that patients are waiting, and we stand ready to ship COVID-19 vaccine doses as soon as potential authorizations will allow us," Pfizer Chairman Dr. Albert Bourla said.

If approved by the European Union's regulator, the vaccine could become available in Europe before the end of 2020, the companies said. Pfizer and BioNTech already applied for emergency approval with the United States in November.
