Lawmakers agree on defense funding bill

Representative Adam Smith and Mac Thornberry announced on Wednesday a bipartisan deal on the final version of the defense funding bill for the next fiscal year. The bill contains no provision to revoke Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act, which provides tech companies with immunity from third-party content, despite countless pleas from President Donald Trump.

"We have reached bicameral agreement on FY21 NDAA, which authorizes funding for the Dept of Defense & nat'l security programs of Dept of Energy. As is the case every year, this agreement is the product of months of hard-fought negotiations. This year we have toiled through almost 2,200 provisions to reach compromise on important issues affecting our national security and our military," the congressmen said.

Earlier, Trump threatened to veto the bill should it fails to include a provision to repeal Section 230.
