COVID relief to come early next week - Japan's Suga

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga asserted on Friday that the fresh set of economic measures aimed at mitigating the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic in the Asian country could be agreed upon "early next week."

Answering the reporters' questions during a press conference, Suga unveiled that "green energy" and "digitalization" will be the main focus of the new stimulus, adding that around ¥2 trillion ($19.2 billion) will be directed towards achieving those goals.

He also underlined the importance of the developments on the vaccine front and reaffirmed that Japan will take all the steps necessary to ensure that its citizens who need the jab "promptly" get inoculated as soon as possible.
