Europe finishes lower amid threat of no-deal Brexit

Major European stock markets closed below the flatline on fears that the trade negotiations between Brussels and London will fail to reach a successful conclusion before the Sunday deadline. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson repeated that the deadlocked talks are very unlikely to result in a deal. His Irish counterpart Michael Martin warned "enormous" differences remain. Meanwhile, in many European countries coronavirus cases continued to surge despite restrictions.

The FTSE 100 dropped 0.80% at the end of the session. Rolls-Royce Holdings plc tumbled 7.60%. The DAX slid 1.36%, with Deutsche Bank AG falling 3.18% at the closing bell. The CAC 40 was down 0.76%. Orange S.A. contracted 3.98%.

The euro decreased 0.25% against the dollar at 5:29 pm CET, selling for $1.21126. The pound lost 0.58% to change hands for $1.32189 at the same time.
