Germany close to tougher lockdown - report

Germany is likely to impose stricter COVID-19 restrictions aimed at curbing the spread of the virus, the N-tv reported on Sunday.

The measures, largely agreed upon by the federal and the state governments, are set to take effect on December 16 and initially last to January 10, with January 5 designated as a day for a reassessment of COVID containment measures in the country, the outlet wrote. The final decision will be made later during the day, the report concluded.

Earlier this week, Germany's Economic Minister Peter Altmaier announced that the government will prolong the coronavirus-related lockdown measures through January 10, and hinted at the possibility of imposing harsher restrictions.
