Wall Street closes lower as investors wait for stimulus

Wall Street closed in the red on Friday as investors are impatiently waiting for stimulus to be negotiated. Congress is moving closer to a midnight shutdown deadline with a number of disagreements still blocking a bipartisan deal on a $900 billion COVID-19 aid package. US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell urged staff to close the deal in hours.

The Dow Jones lost 0.41% or 124 points at the close with Apple falling by 1.59%. The S&P 500 fell 0.35% as FedEx Corp plunged by 5.71%. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq 100 went down by 0.11% amid the tech selloff; Intel Corp plummeted 6.30%.

The euro was down 0.12% against the dollar at 3:57 pm ET, buying 1.22486.
