EU states to take 'a few days' to review Brexit deal

Following the COREPER meeting of ambassadors from all European Union members on Friday, the member states will start a preliminary review of the draft texts of the different agreements comprising the Brexit trade deal with the United Kingdom. According to COREPER spokesman Sebastian Fischer, the process will "take a few days as the core agreement on EU trade and cooperation already comprises 1,246 pages of legal text."

The decision on the preliminary application of the Brexit deal will be taken "in the coming days," he added. "The provisional application aims to prevent a significant disruption in EU-UK relations with severe consequences for citizens and businesses at the end of the transition period on January 1," Fischer said. "The provisional application of the EU-UK agreement would also allow for proper and full democratic scrutiny of the draft agreement by the European Parliament and the EU Council of member states before its final ratification."
