France reports 26,457 new COVID cases, most since mid-November

The French Public Health Agency said on Wednesday the country registered 26,457 coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of virus cases to 2,600,498 nationwide. The daily growth in COVID-19 cases was at its highest since November 18.

Meanwhile, the number of daily fatalities caused by COVID-19 dropped sharply compared to the previous day as hospitals across France reported 304 new deaths related to the disease. The nation's death toll from the coronavirus stands now at 64,381.

According to the official data, 7,451 new hospitalizations over the virus were recorded in the past seven days, while 1,163 people were admitted to intensive care units due to the infection.
