Global daily COVID-19 death toll tops 15K for first time

The number of registered coronavirus deaths climbed by 15,121 on December 30, data compiled from health authorities worldwide showed. The figure marks the largest daily rise in fatalities from the disease since the pandemic started.

The total death toll from COVID-19 now stands at 1,812,208. The United States remains the most affected country with over 340,000 fatalities, followed by Brazil and India with around 194,000 and 149,000 deaths from the virus, respectively.

Meanwhile, the daily rise in newly registered coronavirus infections stood at 719,174, bringing the total number of cases confirmed since the start of the pandemic to 83 million.
