Europe finishes down on coronavirus concerns

Stock markets in Europe closed mixed on Tuesday amid concerns regarding the coronavirus pandemic. The United Kingdom's government announced new measures aimed at supporting the economy. On data, Germany's unemployment rate decreased to 5.9% in December, while retail trade grew 5.6% in November.

The FTSE 100 was the only index that finished in the green, rising 0.61%. Next plc was the best performer, jumping 8.02%. Meanwhile, the DAX dropped 0.55%. Henkel AG & Co. KGaA slipped 2.62%. The CAC 40 decreased 0.44% Michelin SA fell 2.48%.

The euro grew 0.26% against the greenback at 5:29 pm CET, changing hands for 1.22812. The pound climbed 0.32% at the same time to sell for 1.36116 dollars.
