Schumer: Senate to vote on barring Trump from office if convicted

United States Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said on Wednesday that the Senate will hold a vote to bar US President Donald Trump from running for office again if he is convicted in his impeachment trial. The House of Representatives impeached Trump for the second time earlier today, while a trial in the Senate will be held at a later date, possibly after he leaves office on January 20.

"The president of the United States incited a violent mob against the duly elected government of the United States in a vicious, depraved and desperate attempt to stay in power. For the sake of our democracy, it cannot and must not be tolerated, excused, or go unpunished," Schumer added.
