Haines: China is an adversary in intel matters

Avril Haines, United States President-elect Joe Biden's nominee for director of national intelligence (DNI), said on Tuesday that, while the incoming administration sees China as a "global competitor," in the matters pertaining to intelligence, China is an "adversary." In her Senate confirmation hearing, Haines added her duty would be to counter Beijing's "illegal, unfair, aggressive actions."

The DNI pick added that the approach to China "has to evolve and meet the reality of the particularly assertive and aggressive China that we see today. China is a challenge to our security, to our prosperity, to our values across a range of issues and I do support an aggressive stance, in a sense, to deal with the challenge we are facing."
