7.0-quake hits South Shetland Islands - USGS

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 hit the South Shetland Islands, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) unveiled.

The tremor originated at the depth of 7.8km, with the epicenter some 100km from King George Island.

The largest of the South Shetlands, King George Island hosts research stations from 10 different countries, including the US, Russia, and Brazil.
