US initial jobless claims down by 19,000 to 793,000

The number of initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending February 6 fell by 19,000 compared to the previous week's revised figure to land at 793,000, the Labor Department reported on Thursday.

The 4-week moving average was 823,000, a decrease of 33,500 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's level was revised down by 18,500 from 868,000 to 849,500.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 3.2% for the week ending January 30, 0.1 percentage point lower than the previous week's revised rate. Insured unemployment during the same week was 4,545,000, a decrease of 145,000 from the previous week's revised level.
