UK COVID lockdown must be eased step by step - minister

United Kingdom's Minister of State for Social Care Helen Whately called on Monday for patience amid ongoing coronavirus restrictions in the country. She expressed optimism about the "really good data" in terms of declining infection rates, but warned that there are still over 20,000 patients with COVID-19 in hospitals throughout the UK.

"We need to take this step by step," Whately told ITV, adding that Prime Minister Boris Johnson will "set out a roadmap" for lockdown easing on Monday. She added that she hopes schools in the UK will reopen on March 8.
